SALARY: $16.00-$18.00/hour DOE

JOB SUMMARY: 
Performs cleaning of public buildings, structures, and grounds.  Ensures compliance with safety standards involving such public buildings, structures, and grounds for the benefit of county employees and the public.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (The following are illustrative of essential functions to perform duties and responsibilities of the job.  The position may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional tasks as needed by the Department.   • Sweeps, mops, scrubs, vacuums, buffs, and dusts hallways, stairs and office spaces on a daily basis.
  • Places hazard signs to warn public of possible slick floors.
  • Dusts and cleans or polishes chairs, tables, shelves, and other brass, metal, or woodwork including furniture or equipment.
  • Washes windows, walls, woodwork, and Venetian blinds
  • Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms daily; replaces toilet paper and paper towels, collects and disposed of refuse.
  • Notifies the Building/Grounds Supervisor concerning need for major repairs of lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
  • Light maintenance outside, such as cleaning sidewalks, parking lots, and outside area of debris, snow, weeds, and trash.
  • Performs other manual tasks or other related duties as required.
  • Follows all safety rules and addresses any safety concerns before starting project. 
  • Ability to work schedule as set by supervisor
  • Ability to work with a team or independently as needed
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures of the County
  • Ability to communicate (verbally & in writing) in English
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements listed below
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge
  • Basic cleaning methods
  • Use of vacuums, buffers, other cleaning equipment
  • Light maintenance such as painting 
  • Small hand tools for yard maintenance
  • Safety in the workplace
Abilities:
  • Ability to take direction from supervisor and other team members
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form
  • Ability to take initiative and to accomplish all assigned tasks
  • Ability to see areas that need maintenance
  • Ability to work unsupervised
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High school education or GED; or up to one month of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must pass Alamosa County background check and pre-employment drug testing
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License required

Ability to maneuver uneven terrain. Duties performed in all types of weather conditions, cold, hot temperatures, high winds.  The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.  The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to sit, talk, walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, see, and hear. Hearing and vision correctable to normal ranges; close-up vision and the ability to adjust focus across a distance. The employee is required to communicate both orally and in writing. Employee must be able to reach and manipulate objects, tools or controls, drive, frequently lift up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Employee must be able to work in an environment that could be very noisy.
